The future of Tech Hijack

I have been doing my podcast Tech Hijack for over a year now. I believe that, as a whole the podcast and myself have matured. It is now time to really start thinking of the future of the podcast and the direction for which I want to take it.

Over the past 6 months, I have been playing around with new formats for the show. I have never wanted to stray from doing tech news, however, sometimes there are some slow news weeks. Since I don't really try to cover the big breaking news, that also poses a problem on some of my stories. I find myself more and more covering those breaking stories. I mean, I pretty much have to. I have though, started playing around with "one" topic episodes of the show. These tend to do better as a whole for me listener wise. I think people enjoy hearing my opinion on these one topic shows be it they agree or disagree with my opinions.

I have decided that for many of my "one" topic episodes I want to start having a group discussion. Having a few friends on and other people to discuss the topic at hand. The first show that I want to do is on facebook. I already have people planned on being on it, it is just trying to find the time where every one can do it.

With all this said, what is your opinion of the "one" topic podcast with a group? I think it really opens things up for a nice little conversation and having several thoughts and opinions, I think is a good idea.

Let me know what you think!

Just say NO! To Primerica.

Since being out of work nearly a month now, I have come to the point where everything for a job sounds good. Unfortunately this has left me open to scams. I have only fallen for two though so far. One being online with an online app, and the other that was well disguised as a legit company. If you follow me on twitter or any other social networking site, you say that I had an interview this last Thursday (4-9-09). The interview was for a company called Primerica a subsidiary of Citi Group. This was exciting news for me. They called me Wednesday night and told me a little bit about the position, telling me that they were looking for a branch manager. I did some research on the company and say that it was financial work, so I got excited.

When I showed up to my interview I noticed that the office was in a hole in the wall out of the way building. More or less a strip mall. I walked in and the lobby was no bigger than my closet. After filling out some paperwork I got called back for my interview. I was pretty much asked basic interview questions and when that was over with the actual job was described to me. While the rep was talking about the company I started feeling things were a little fishy. I was invited back for a second interview that same night. But things kept sticking with me from what she explained. First I would have to get a license. Ok, But the catch is I would have to pay the $100 for it myself. The other part was being told that I decide how much I want to make. That seemed a bit unrealistic. But the biggest thing was when I was told that I got paid based on clients. But was then told this wasn't a sales position.

So I came home, talked to my mom and decided I may go ahead and do the interview, but would think about it. When I got home I posted about having an interview with Primerica. It didn't take long to start getting comments and direct emails about Primerica Being a scam! So I started researching a bit more, and sure enough my gut feeling was right. Primerica is a Pyramid Scam. What does that mean you may ask? Well Pyramid scam is a never ending chain. Some one recruits you to push their product by word of mouth. Because they recruited you, they get part of what you make. If you want to make more money, You can recruit a team to work under you.

Sadly these companies like to prey on the unemployed, and sadly if you have friends that are involved in companies like this, you get preyed on. These things aren't worth it, and they are easy to fall for especially if the person pitching it to you is a good salesman. I have fallen for two of these pyramid scams in my life. They are not worth getting involved in, No matter how good they sound. Remember, If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
