The future of Tech Hijack

I have been doing my podcast Tech Hijack for over a year now. I believe that, as a whole the podcast and myself have matured. It is now time to really start thinking of the future of the podcast and the direction for which I want to take it.

Over the past 6 months, I have been playing around with new formats for the show. I have never wanted to stray from doing tech news, however, sometimes there are some slow news weeks. Since I don't really try to cover the big breaking news, that also poses a problem on some of my stories. I find myself more and more covering those breaking stories. I mean, I pretty much have to. I have though, started playing around with "one" topic episodes of the show. These tend to do better as a whole for me listener wise. I think people enjoy hearing my opinion on these one topic shows be it they agree or disagree with my opinions.

I have decided that for many of my "one" topic episodes I want to start having a group discussion. Having a few friends on and other people to discuss the topic at hand. The first show that I want to do is on facebook. I already have people planned on being on it, it is just trying to find the time where every one can do it.

With all this said, what is your opinion of the "one" topic podcast with a group? I think it really opens things up for a nice little conversation and having several thoughts and opinions, I think is a good idea.

Let me know what you think!

Whats the Big Deal with AngiesList?

So, you may have been seeing some commercials recently about AngiesList.com and started wondering "What's this all about". Well I am going to tell you what it is all about. AngiesList is a tool that lets you pick the best person for the job you need done. There you can find tons of unbiased reviews for just about any profession you can think of. You can see companies or indivisuals that are doing a great job, or some that maybe you will want to stay away from. But why would you use this service? Well lets think of it this way. You want to hire a nanny lets say, But you don't just want any one watching junior now do you. You have the option of just picking some nanny service at random from your local phonebook or a friends reccomendation, or you can use angieslist. Lets say that you decide to go on your friends reccomendation. Every thing seems ok at first, but then junior tells you one day that the nanny is just watching tv all day and not helping him with his 1st grade homework, or that she is just talking on the phone all day. That is when you go to angieslist and find out that she has a pretty bad rep around town. Now if you would have done this in the first place, You would have saved yourself all this trouble and had the best right off the bat.

Ok, so maybe that wasn't the greatest example, But we have to be catious of who we use for services. You don't just go to any mechanic for your car. Don't just use any one you find in a Yellow Pages. Use Angies List and by using my promo code "corey" at check out, you will save 25% off your subscription or just go to http://angieslist.com/corey

The Becoming! I know their Bassist

Ok, I don't know how many of my readers know this. But back in the day I was a serious musician. I loved music, I still do to a certain point. I started playing guitar my senior year of highschool and by the summer of 2000 I was in a band. Of course things changed in that band. But around the fall of 2000 we had a singer (Jason Preece) Guitar Player(Me, Corey Harris), a Bassist (Kory Arcidino) and a Drummer (Danny Hoover). Boy did we think we were the shit! Well fast forward to present day and the only one of us that followed our dream was Kory Arcidino. His band "The Becoming" signed a deal with Tooth and Nail records and they have released their debut album Vol. 1. I hate to sound so corny, But I am so proud of Kory. He had the determination to go out there and realize his dream. I am proud of his band too. I think it is so great that some one that I know has found their dream and made it happen.

As you all should know by now, I am a believer in making your dreams come true. I myself have been able to become an accomplished Magician and Professional Wrestler. I am also a decent musician, But will probably never play in a band again. So the fact that Kory made it, makes me happy. I only wish this for the other members of the old band (Primal Illusion) the same success.

I think the best part of Kory being successful in the music business is the fact that all of us in the band used to give him such a hard time. Kory was just starting to play bass, and we used to tease him constantly. I remember on so many occasions making him cry. We were such jerks to him. What I always found odd though was the fact that when it was just Kory and myself, we got along great. Never had a fight by ourselves, But put every one else in the mix and it got rough. Maybe it became a dominance thing. I mean hell, I supplied all the equipment besides Kory's bass gear. I supplied the Drums, P.A. Mic's, Place to rehearse, etc.... Hell things got so bad between all of us that I actually got kicked out of the band because my grandmother was about to die and I couldn't make it to practice. But that was a conspiracy for a while when I was replaced when I had to take a break from it. Still no hard feelings, Though I am more comfortable talking to Kory still than I am the others. I feel the others are the ones that stabbed me in the back, not Kory. Hell, Kory was the go between there for a while. I would have loved for things to been different, but every thing happens for a reason. The breakup with me happened so I could become a Professional Wrestler, and for the band to grow as a band.
